Wireless Networking
As a visitor at 91做厙 (ORNL), you can access the ORNL wireless network in many of our buildings. To gain access, you must have a PC or mobile device with wireless capability. Visitors whose PCs or mobile devices do not have wireless capability can access the limited number of Ethernet connections available on campus.
Logging In to the ORNL Wireless Network
Quick Facts:
- Registration is valid for up to 30 days.
- Registration is unlimited.
- These accounts are separate from all other ORNL accounts (UCAMS, XCAMS, etc.).
Complete the following steps to register and log in to the ORNL wireless network:
- Navigate and connect to the ornl-visitor network on your PC or mobile device. A browser window will then automatically open with the login page.
- NOTE: If the login page does not appear, then you may need to select the ornl-visitor wireless listing once more. The page will show Sign-in is required.
- Once the login page loads, select Continue.
- NOTE: To connect to ORNLs visitor wireless network, please disable Private Wi-Fi Address in your devices Wi-Fi settings. See steps below.
- Enter the required information on the page.
- After reading the terms and conditions, select the I Agree box and click Register.
- NOTE: Each registration is valid for 30 days. After 30 days, you will need to complete the registration process again. Device registration is unlimited, and users can complete this process on as many devices as needed.
- After reviewing the information, click Sign On to proceed to the sign-in page. You will then be prompted to accept the Acceptable User Policy.
- Click Accept. You will then be automatically directed to the ORNL home page.
- NOTE: You may be required to select Done on some devices to complete the connection.
Disabling private Wi-Fi address for Android and iPhone
Android:
- Swipe down to access settings, tap and hold the Wi-Fi Icon.
- Click Details.
- With a connection already established to Visitor click the Gear icon beside the network name.
- Click on View more.
- Scroll down to MAC address type and set to Phone MAC.
iPhone:
- Connect fully to the ornl-visitor Wi-Fi connection.
- Open your iPhone settings.
- Select Wi-fi.
- Select the i with a circle around it for the ornl-visitor Wi-Fi connection.
- Scroll down to Private Wi-Fi Address.
- Change the setting to OFF.

Printing on the ORNL Wireless Network
Visitors who wish to print on campus can email documents as attachments to PUBprint@ornl.gov to receive a release key, which can be entered at any PUB print location to release print jobs.
Acceptable Use Policy for ORNL Wireless Network Access
This policy describes the acceptable use of the ORNL Visitor Network. Using this network or connecting to any other ORNL network(s) requires compliance with this policy. Users of the ORNL Visitor Network have no expectation of privacy while using the network. ORNL may access and monitor any and all uses of the ORNL Visitor Network and obtain, intercept, record, copy, audit, inspect, and disclose information or communications that arise from such access and monitoring without notice to the user in the ordinary course of business, at the discretion of ORNL and/or the US government, and to the extent permitted by applicable law. Users who wish for their electronic communications to be private or confidential should not conduct such activities on the ORNL Visitor Network and should assume that ORNL is monitoring all network traffic, accessing the contents of all network traffic, and disclosing any and all information gained from such monitoring to authorized individuals or agencies, all without prior notice to or consent from any user, sender, or addressee. Web content filtering is used on the ORNL Visitor Network to block certain categories of content (e.g., pornography, hacking tools, gambling sites, gaming) that ORNL has deemed malicious, objectionable, or counterproductive to conducting business at ORNL.
The following guidelines will be applied to determine whether a particular use of the ORNL Visitor Network is appropriate:
- Users must observe the privacy rights of others. Users shall not access or attempt to obtain access to another users communication or system without appropriate authorization. Users shall not seek information on or represent themselves as another user unless explicitly authorized to do so by that user. Executing any form of network monitoring that will intercept data not intended for the user is unacceptable.
- Users must comply with the legal protection applied to programs, data, photographs, music, written documents, and other material as provided by, for example, copyright, trademark, patent, licensure, and other proprietary rights mechanisms.
- Users shall not intentionally develop or use programs that harass other users or infiltrate any other computer, computing system, or network and/or damage or alter the software components or file systems of a computer, computing system, or network.
- Use of the ORNL Visitor Network for malicious, fraudulent, or misrepresentative purposes is not acceptable. Transmission of any material that violates applicable laws or regulations including, but not limited to, any copyrighted material or any material or messages that are unlawful, harassing, libelous, abusive, threatening, harmful, vulgar, obscene, or otherwise objectionable in any manner or nature or that encourage conduct that could constitute a criminal offense, give rise to civil liability, or otherwise violate any applicable local, state, national, or international laws or regulations is not acceptable.
- The ORNL Visitor Network may not be used in a manner that impairs network access by others. Nor may the ORNL Visitor Network be used in a manner that impairs access to other networks connected to the ORNL network. Port or security scanning is not acceptable. Introduction of malicious programs (e.g., viruses, worms, Trojan horses, email bombs) into the network or server is prohibited. Using any program/script/command to intentionally circumvent or disable ORNL security infrastructure is not acceptable.
- Unsolicited advertising is not acceptable. Making fraudulent offers of products, items, or services that originate from any ORNL network resource is not acceptable. Sending unsolicited email messages, including the sending of junk mail or other advertising material to individuals who did not specifically request such material (email spam), is not acceptable.
- Repeated, unsolicited, and/or unwanted communication of an intrusive nature is not acceptable. Continuing to send email messages or other communications to an individual or organization after being asked to stop is not acceptable. Sending any form of harassment via email, telephone, or pagingwhether through language, frequency, or size of messagesis not acceptable.
By using the ORNL Visitor Network, you are becoming a party to and agree to be bound by this Acceptable Use Policy. By logging on, you agree to release, hold harmless, and indemnify ORNL and its managing and operating contractor for any damages that may result from your access to the internet or inappropriate usage. Although the intent of this policy is to identify certain types of uses that are not appropriate, this policy does not necessarily enumerate all possible inappropriate uses. You furthermore acknowledge that you have read and understand the Acceptable Use Policy and agree to be bound by the Acceptable Use Policy in effect and as updated by ORNL. If you do not agree to be bound by the Acceptable Use Policy, then you may not use the ORNL Visitor Network, and you should cancel your request. If you do not agree to be bound by the Acceptable Use Policy, then ORNL will be under no obligation to provide you with access to the ORNL Visitor Network.
Your access to the ORNL Visitor Network may be terminated due to a breach of the Acceptable Use Policy at any time.
