Abstract
The impact of the new SiC material based devices on a full system needs to be
evaluated in order to assess the benefits of replacing Silicon (Si) devices with WBG
devices. In this paper the results obtained with a full-system model simulated for an
aggressive US06 drive cycle are presented. The system model includes a motor/generator
model and inverter loss model developed using actual measured data. The results provide
an insight to the difference in performance of a permanent magnet traction drive system
using SiC versus Si devices.
