Principal HPC Network Engineer

Daniel is a Principal HPC Network Engineer for the High-Performance Computing Networking Group. 

His duties include:
Provides long-range strategic planning for new and innovative networking technologies, including research and development of alternative architectures, new infrastructure framework, engineering strategy, monitors the impact of technical developments.
Research advanced and leading-edge technologies as they pertain to strategic planning and implementation of the OLCF network; makes recommendations to management.

Provides escalation support for network engineering staff.

Develops criteria and oversees design development of prototypical lab environments for the purpose of providing testing and training platforms of new network technologies by engineering and operations staff.

Reviews and evaluates performance data to ensure sufficient resources are available to support current requirements; develops strategies for identifying and increasing resources when necessary.   

Network Planning and Strategy: Collaborate with IT managers, system administrators, and other stakeholders to develop long-term network plans and strategies. Stay updated with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices to ensure the network infrastructure aligns with the organization's goals and objectives.

Vendor Management: Evaluate and select network hardware, software, and service providers. Negotiate contracts, manage vendor relationships, and oversee the procurement process for network equipment and services.

Team Collaboration and Leadership: Work closely with cross-functional teams, such as system administrators, security professionals, and software developers, to integrate network solutions with other IT systems. Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and training to junior network engineers and administrators.

Network Monitoring and Reporting: Implement network monitoring tools and systems to proactively monitor the health, performance, and security of the network infrastructure. Generate regular reports, analyze network trends, and present findings to management for decision-making and future planning.
