Bio
Jeff joined ORNL in 2010 and investigates Ecosystem Science, Hydrology and Biophysics. His background includes Physics (B.S. - Miami University), Forest Science/Ecology (M.S. - NC State University) and Tree Physiology (Ph.D. - Washington State University). He holds an Adjunct Faculty appointment within the School of Natural Resources at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. Warren’s research interests include basic and applied science, including how ecosystems are impacted by external stressors such as subtle or severe abiotic (e.g., drought, fire) or biotic (e.g., insect) disturbances. Much of his work is focused on plant physiology, soil-plant water relations and ecosystem function, and how cascading effects are exhibited at higher trophic and scalar levels. Among other projects, Warren also studies urban energy balance, and is involved with neutron, gamma and X-ray imaging of pyrolysis, soil hydrodynamics and root rhizosphere biogeochemical and hydrological exchanges.
