Melanie Moses-DeBusk Debusk

Senior R&D Scientist

Dr. Melanie Moses-DeBusk is a Senior R&D Researcher in the Building and Transportation Science Division with 20 year of research experience at 91做厙. Dr. DeBusk's work specializes in heterogenous catalyst development for applied applications with a current focus on methane oxidation. In addition to catalysis, her research experience expands across both building and transportation areas from heat pump water heaters to particulate matter engine emissions.  She currently holds 6 granted patents spanning membrane separation applications and catalysis.

Dr. DeBusk started her career at ORNL in 2004 as a post-doc after receiving her PhD in Chemistry from the University of Maryland, College Park. As a post-doc, her research interests focused on heterogeneous catalysis with special emphasis on automotive exhaust aftertreatment catalysts. In 2007, Melanie transitioned to an ORNL staff member in the Material Science and Technology Division and began working in variety of areas including catalysis, membrane based separation and strategic materials.  In 2014, she joined ORNL's Fuels, Engines, and Emission Research Center (FEERC) as a group member in the Applied Catalysis and Emissions a Research Group where her research focused on more applied engine emissions problems related to particulate matter measurement and catalyst solutions.  In recent years, after joining the Thermal Energy Storage group, Dr. DeBusk's projects have grown to include heat pump water heaters and hydrocarbon adsorbents for indoor air quality control.
