Senior Accelerator Facility Safety Engineer

Thomas is a Senior Accelerator Facility Safety Engineer for the Spallation Neutron Source at 91°µÍø in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. He works in the Accelerator Safety Program, helping to ensure that the Spallation Neutron Source is operated with the utmost respect for the safety of its employees, the public, and the environment. The Accelerator Safety Program also maintains documents and programs required by the Department of Energy Order 420.2D.

Thomas joined ORNL in August 2022 after working for 15 years at Naval Nuclear Laboratory in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. While at NNL, Thomas held multiple positions of increasing responsibility that ensured the safe design and operation of the U.S. Navy’s fleet of nuclear-powered submarines and aircraft carriers, culminating in a two-year assignment in the Reactor Plant Contractors Office at Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, Virginia.

Thomas grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee and earned Bachelor of Science and Master of Science Degrees in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Tennessee.
