Dr. Victor Fung is a Eugene P. Wigner Fellow working in the Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences (CNMS). He obtained his BA in Chemistry from Cornell University and his PhD in Chemistry from the University of California, Riverside. His research involves the study of surface and catalytic properties using first principles techniques such as density functional theory as well as computational approaches using machine learning. To accomplish this, his key efforts include the developing fundamental physicochemical descriptors of chemical properties, high-throughput materials screening and machine learning predictions for materials discovery and design. Specific topics of his research include the capture and conversion of methane, heterogeneous C-H functionalization, and the structure/property prediction of nanomaterials.
