Water-based supersorbent materials synthesis and its in-situ coating for dehumidification

Invention Reference Number

202305406

Moisture management accounts for over 40% of the energy used by buildings. As such development of energy efficient and resilient dehumidification technologies are critical to decarbonize the building energy sector. Currently, desiccant materials such as silica gel and zeolite are widely used for moisture management. However, these desiccants need high temperature (>150 oC) to regenerate, which is energy intensive. In this invention, we developed an water based process to synthesis polymeric desiccants and its composites, which have high moisture absorption capacity and low regeneration temperature (25-35 oC). Additionally, these desiccants can be used as a coating material to be coated porous media (e.g., metal foam) for building moisture management.
