Tyler Skluzacek

Research Scientist, Data Lifecycle and Scalable Workflows Group

Welcome to my ORNL staff page! I am a computer scientist who works at the intersection of large-scale automated workflows and scientific data management. I'm particularly interested in turning scientists' manual processes into fully-automated research solutions. To support this goal, Tyler co-leads OLCF's Secure Scientific Service Mesh efforts to provide fully programmatic access to OLCF's compute resources, leads the Globus Compute Task Force, and directly collaborates with dozens of scientists to integrate these tools in their research. Tyler also represents ORNL on the Integrated Research Infrastructure (IRI) Interfaces subcommittee, and has held leadership positions in numerous research conferences such as eScience, HPDC, and SC.

Tyler received his Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Chicago. He completed his bachelor’s in applied mathematics and statistics from Macalester College in St. Paul, MN. Previously, Tyler interned at IBM Research and created an application called Nightware that monitors and treats traumatic nightmare symptoms in patients with PTSD.

In his spare time, Tyler enjoys playing the violin, assembling puzzles, mentoring students, and traveling with his wife Lauren and toddlers Jack and Violet. Tyler is also an avid supporter of the Minnesota Vikings, and is confident they will win the Super Bowl in 2026.
